The Burlington Township Water Department previously notified you regarding the Perfluorooctanoic Acid (“PFOA”) Maximum Contaminant Level (“MCL”) exceedance on August 26, 2024. As of August 13, 2024, we have completed the installation of ion-exchange equipment that will treat all per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (commonly referred to as “PFAS”). Samples collected on August 21 and September 11, 2024 demonstrate that the water being provided by our water system has less than 0.002 parts per billion (“ppb”), or the equivalent of 2 parts per trillion (“ppt”), of PFOA compared to our previous Running Annual Average of 0.016 ppb (or 16 ppt), and is in compliance with the MCL of 0.014 ppb (or 14 ppt).
This notice is our final notification regarding this violation to ensure our consumers are aware that the water being provided is now in compliance with the PFOA MCL.
For more information, please contact Scott Hatfield at 609-239-5836 or 851 Old York Road, Burlington Twp. or shatfield@twp.burlington.nj.us.
The Burlington Township Water Dept. will continue to monitor the levels of PFAS in your drinking water as required by the NJ Dept. of Environmental Protection and will notify you of any future exceedances. We want to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience as we worked to address the presence of PFOA in our drinking water. The Township is pursuing legal action against the entities responsible for discharging PFAS into the groundwater system.
