Spring/Summer
CleanUp
Mosquitoes
Now is the time to assess potential problems surrounding your
home that could harbor mosquito larvae and increase the danger of
the West Nile Virus. Old tires,
non-draining flower containers, and poor drainage areas are major
contributors to this situation.
Tree Limbs - Call
Before You Cut!
Limbs are collected by the branch truck. The truck
travels street by street. Place limbs to
the curb with butt ends facing out. Anything less that 3' long
requires bundling or enclosing in a container. Residents may take
bagged grass, leaves, limbs, or yard debris to the Burlington Township compost site on Lake Avenue in
lieu of waiting for a curbside pickup. Hours are: Thursday and Friday 9am -
4:45pm, Saturday and Sunday 7:00am - 2:45pm, Monday, Tuesday, and
Wednesday Closed.

Grass, Cut it and Leave it
Fertilizing
Grasscycling, along with proper
fertilization, will enhance the health of your
lawn,
Grasscycling allows grass clippings to stay on the
ground. Grasscycling returns nearly two
pounds of valuable nitrogen to every 1,000 square feet of lawn each
year. Lawn experts agree that lawn clippings do NOT create thatch.
It's formed from the accumulation of dead grass roots and rhizomes
of lawn grasses.
Mowing
Most New Jersey lawns thrive when mowed to
about two to three inches. In hot weather taller grass shades the
soil, cools roots and prevents weeds. Never remove more than
one-third of the lawn height when you mow.
Lawnmowers
You can buy several brands of mulching mowers. However, you don't
need a special mower for grasscycling.
Just remove the collection bag. Beware: always adhere to the
manufacturer's instructions; some rear-bagging mowers aren't safe to
operate with bags. Manufacturers also market attachments and/or
mulching blades to improve grasscycling
performance.
Watering
Water during the early morning or in the evening when less
evaporation occurs. Please adhere to any restrictions that may
apply during drought conditions
Bagged Grass Collection
Grass will be collected on Mondays throughout the summer with the
exception of Memorial Day and Labor Day. Grass cannot be mixed with leaves
or branches/twigs.
BURLINGTON
TOWNSHIP PUBLIC WORKS WILL NO
LONGER ACCEPT GRASS PLACED IN PLASTIC BAGS. 30 GALLON PLASTIC/METAL
CONTAINERS ARE ENCOURAGED. BIODEGRADABLE BAGS FOR GRASS DISPOSAL MAY ALSO BE USED. BAGS CANNOT WEIGH MORE
THAN 60 LBS.
YARD DEBRIS; I.E., MULCH, DIRT, AND SOD CAN BE PLACED IN CONTAINERS
NOT WEIGHING OVER 60 LBS. PLEASE CONTACT THE PUBLIC WORKS OFFICE FOR
PICKUP SCHEDULE.
BURLINGTON COUNTY WASTE MANAGEMENT IS REQUESTING
THAT IN LIEU OF BAGGING GRASS, A MULCHING BLADE BE USED SO CUT GRASS
CAN REMAIN ON THE LAWN TO REFEED IT AND HELP
MAINTAIN MOISTURE DURING THE DRY SUMMER MONTHS.
